Jesus returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat down.  A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn’t speak, and many others. They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all.  The crowd was amazed! Those who hadn’t been able to speak were talking, the crippled were made well, the lame were walking, and the blind could see again! And they praised the God of Israel.

Matthew 15:29-31

Can you imagine this scene? We don’t know how many people were there, we are told a vast crowd. Other words for vast might include expansive, extensive, boundless. Whatever the number, the compassion of Jesus was greater. I have heard people say they weren’t going to go forward for prayer because there are others who are sicker. That implies to me that Jesus power is limited. I think not.

Throughout all four gospels, we see the compassion of Jesus reaching out to hurting individuals. He willingly and lovingly healed people the majority of society would have overlooked – the woman with the issue of blood, the man with the legion of demons, the leper that He physically touched.

Compassion literally means “to suffer together.” Among emotion researchers, it is defined as the feeling that arises when you are confronted with another’s suffering and feel motivated to relieve that suffering.

Jesus went out of His way to relieve the suffering of people. And if that wasn’t enough, He went to the cross to set us free from suffering – emotional, physical, relational, mental, spiritual.

The compassion of Jesus moved Him to heal the many, to search out the one and to heal me and my family members. His compassion has not been tapped out; it is never ending. I believe because of His compassion, He wants you healed even more than you want to be healed.

Jesus came to set the captives free. Whatever holds you captive Jesus desires to see you healed, delivered, and made whole.

Jesus, thank You for faithfully carrying out the desires of our Father. Desires that include healing and restoration. Help me to embrace that kind of compassion and allow Your healing to permeate my life and my loved ones lives as well. Please help me to share that compassion with those around me who need healing, amen.
