Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
Mountains may not be shaking around you and hills may not be removed, but there are so many other things that can rock our world – disease, relationships falling apart, bills stacking up, death of a loved one. The list goes on and on. Some of what rocks our world are things that are out of our control and some are the result of poor decisions we made. No judgement here, I am guilty of making poor decisions.
This verse assures us of several things:
God’s unfailing love isn’t rocked because our world is. God’s love is unfailing, unshakeable and everlasting. We don’t earn it and we can’t lose it.
God’s covenant (promise) of peace will not be removed from us. We are sinful people and make mistakes but God’s promise of peace remains steadfast. God’s peace doesn’t waiver and it doesn’t require us to earn the benefits of the covenant. There is no limit to the amount of peace we can draw from Him.
God has compassion on us. God’s compassion is not mere sympathy. God’s compassion involves mercy, kindness, patience, grace, forgiveness, healing and love. His compassion is what drove Jesus to meet people in the lowest of situations and minister to them at their greatest point of need.
His arms are always open. Let Him embrace you. Allow His healing mercy to pour over you.
Thank You gracious, generous, merciful Father for the gift of peace. For the covenant of peace You have honored and will continue to honor. Your mercy and compassion are beyond anything I can even imagine. Forgive me for the doubting times and help me to receive of Your peace and Your healing and restoration today. I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
