The Baby with the Bathwater

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Matthew 24:35 I believe in divine healing even though I still have pain in my body. I first learned about divine healing experientially. Members of my family were healed because someone prayed.  But experience isn’t the same as biblical doctrine. While living in Tulsa, I encountered the Word of Faith teachings of Kenneth Hagin, Bob Yandian, Billy Joe Daugherty, Richard Roberts and more. It was new to me; I had never in all my years of attending church, heard this message of healing. Since I needed healing, I … Continue reading The Baby with the Bathwater

God’s Unlimited Supply

And this same God who takes of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:19 God, who is the giver of every good and perfect gift, never stops giving.  He is aware of our needs even before we are.  What are your needs today?  Not your wants, your needs?  I tend to think that all I need is healing for my body and if I were healed everything would be just fine, but only God knows my greatest point of need.  Only God can fully address that … Continue reading God’s Unlimited Supply

Casting Your Cares

Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:7, AMP Nothing takes God by surprise. Nothing. Life takes me by surprise often. I make my plans, set my goals and wham—a diagnosis, a new pain, an unexpected expense, a relationship turns sour—and I am surprised. At my age, I should no longer get surprised. Life happens and, sometimes, it is more of a kick in the gut than a stroll on the beach. Even so, none of … Continue reading Casting Your Cares

All Inclusive

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation. Hebrews 2:3 I grew up in Houston, Texas and for one year of high school, I attended a rather elite private school.  This is the same school George Bush attended a few years ahead of me.  If asked, people who promoted the school would no doubt say it was all inclusive.  My experience told me differently.  Oh, it was inclusive if you dressed the correct way, made the top grades and fit the pattern created by others ahead of me.  Unfortunately, I didn’t fit the pattern and I had … Continue reading All Inclusive

Do Not Fear

Those who are righteous … will not fear evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is upheld, he will not fear, until he looks with satisfaction upon his adversaries. Psalm 112:6-8 Can I just be honest here? I have feared evil tidings. I have made doctor appointments and then cancelled them. I like denial. I don’t know which I think is more of an evil tiding—hearing a diagnosis or hearing a doctor say, “I just don’t know.”  Twenty of the past twenty three years, I have been in chronic pain. I had freedom from the … Continue reading Do Not Fear

Two-Edged Sword

This was written about my husband’s battle with cancer some years ago.  A battle that ended in victory for him! For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 Ever had the nightmare of waiting on test results from a biopsy? Or blood tests? Or any other diagnostic test?  We had that opportunity – waiting on the myriad of tests done on my husband. The … Continue reading Two-Edged Sword

Especially Then

Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. I John 3:1   I will never forget his smile. At least, I hope I never forget his smile. Or the words he spoke or the way he spoke them. Simple words, all he said was “especially then.”  He was ringing up my purchase at the hydroponic store and we got to talking about our kids. He has three. I have four. We talked about annoying behavior as well as not so annoying behavior. I made a … Continue reading Especially Then

All Things Good?

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 I’m not real wild about artichokes. At least, I didn’t think I was. But that was before our son, John made a gluten free, fully loaded Mediterranean pizza for us. It had marinated artichoke hearts and olives and spinach and feta cheese and was incredible. So now, I think, I do like artichokes. It’s possible that my opinion on artichokes came from a time when my husband surprised me with dinner. … Continue reading All Things Good?

A New Start

If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; Isaiah 1: 19 When the Israelites first came out of the wilderness, before they entered the Promised Land, they encamped at Gilgal.  This was a stopping off place for the Israelites. They were no longer in the wilderness where they had been for the last forty years, but they weren’t in possession of the Promised Land either. The forty years leading up to this time in Gilgal had probably been marked by frustration (when God when?) and unanswered questions (why God why?) and may … Continue reading A New Start

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

God said to Moses: “Why cry out to me? Speak to the Israelites.  Order them to get moving.  Hold your staff high and stretch your hand out over the sea: Split the sea! The Israelites will walk through the sea on dry ground. Exodus 14:15-16 Working with kids gives me the opportunity to know more about the book series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, than I would have known if I didn’t work with kids. I’m not saying this is a good thing; just saying. These books are a collection of diaries written by Rodney, a kid in middle school, … Continue reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid
