And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”
Luke 1:45
Faith, trust, and believing are difficult concepts at time, especially when all we have is someone’s word. This is all Mary had but instead of doubting, she considered the source of the promise to be worthy of trusting. And time proved that His word was true. She received the fulfillment of the promise and we know His name is Jesus.
Have you ever been there? Trusting only in God’s word for a promise to be fulfilled and waiting and waiting.
I certainly have and I can honestly say that waiting is not my strong suit. We all have choices of how we spending our time during periods of waiting. We can worry and wonder when God when? or we can rest in the assurance that the giver of the promise is worthy of our trust.
Hebrews 11: 1 tells us: Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
At least things not seen in the physical realm. I suspect that from the moment Mary got the word that she would give birth to a child that she saw that child in her imagination and felt love for that child in her heart.
I marvel at her faith, this could not have been easy – to become pregnant out of wedlock and tell her family and friends that this is God’s chosen Son that she is carrying. I doubt she got much support from them. But she held on to the promise that was given to her and because of that, God called her blessed.
Blessed because she believed, blessed because she trusted, blessed because she didn’t doubt, didn’t give in to the naysayers that may have been around, blessed because she was willing to wait in expectant hope for the word of God to be manifested in her life. And that word was manifested in her live and in ours. And His name is Jesus.
Father, thank You for sending Your son to deliver me from sin and sickness and lack. Thank You for watching over Your word for it to perform what You sent it to do. Help me in the waiting to keep my eyes and my heart focused on the fulfillment of the promise even when I am weary of waiting. You are trustworthy and I praise You for keeping Your word to me, time and time again, amen.
