God Will Not Forsake You

I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.

Isaiah 42:16

Today I drove around trying to find garage sales. Turns out that some of the signs were for sales that had happened previously and had not been taken down. Some of the signs had arrows pointing a certain direction but no address and no further signs to discover. I got so turned around and so lost that it took me awhile to get my bearings and get home.

Looking for garage sales pales in comparison to looking for the right medication, the perfect job or mate or learning to navigate life again after a major setback – death of a loved one, watching a loved one with addiction issues slip away, trying to live again after a long season of grief.

Whatever the new journey may entail, this verse promises us that God will lead us, guide us and make the rugged places into plains. Wrong steps will be righted. He will turn the darkness into light before us. He will not forsake us. He will not lead us by signs that are inaccurate or false. He will make the way clear.

Can I say that again? HE WILL NOT FORSAKE US!! Not now, not ever.

He isn’t watching over us to tally up our wrong doings, He is watching over us to lead us in the paths that are right for us during this season of our lives, whatever this season may look like for us. Our role in this is to trust, to lay aside our inclination to direct our own path and learn to rest in the journey.

Easier said than done, I know, but we have His word, His promise and His Spirit to lean on. We are not alone.

Gracious Heavenly Father, Your word and Your Spirit have guided me through so much over the years. I am so grateful that I have not had to navigate life alone. I know I can trust You to guide me through this next season and lead me to Your destination, not mine. Your will be done in my life here on earth as it is in heaven. Help me to rest and submit, I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
