Trust in God’s Unchanging Word

The grass withers, the flower fades,

But the word of our God stands forever.

Isaiah 40:8

My yard, which starts out so green and beautiful in the spring fades to yellow and becomes not so beautiful in the summer. God created the seasons and the seasons change. As they change, they also change the appearance of the natural environment around us. This change is predictable. Unfortunately, not all changes are predictable.

The doctor’s report that rocks our world and leads to more questions than answers is definitely unpredictable.  We know when to expect the seasons to change – when fall becomes winter and winter becomes spring. There is an end date to each season. We don’t know, however, when the healing God has promised will manifest in our body.

And yet, we are reminded in this verse that God’s word is predictable. It stands forever and never changes. We can trust in His word when other aspects of our lives become shaky and leave us looking for answers and end dates to the uncertainty brought on by these changes. Sometimes, those answers just aren’t here to find. Yet.

But not one promise of God has changed, not one time did He fail to deliver on His promise. We can count on His word and rest in the knowledge that He watches over His word to see it perform in our lives.

We have the choice to worry our way through whatever unfair, unwanted, unwelcome bad news comes our way or we can rest in the word of God.

How, when your world has been rocked and you are left shaken to the core do you rest in His word?

Start with reminding yourself of what He has already brought you through.

Spend time in God’s word, meditate on His word throughout the day. Speak words of life over yourself.

Pray without ceasing.

Remember – the grass will grow again, the flowers will bloom again given the right environment.

Given the right environment of time with God and His word will prepare your heart for the new season to come and help you remain firm in your faith for healing.

Seasons change but God’s word does not. His character hasn’t changed. His love for us hasn’t changed and the good plans He has for us haven’t changed.

Whatever the diagnosis, we can stand on His word that tells us in Isaiah 53:5 that by the stripes Jesus took on our behalf, we are healed.

Heavenly Father, thank You for always keeping Your word. Thank You for watching over Your word for it to perform what You sent it to perform. Thank You in advance for the healing that will manifest in my body, in Your perfect timing. I choose to rest on Your word because You have proven Your trustworthiness over and over to me and I know You will again. Thank You.
