…So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide.
And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
No doubt you know the story, God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his only son Isaac. What Abraham didn’t know climbing up to the altar and tying Isaac to it was that God had no intentions of having Isaac slain; He had already provided a replacement lamb. It was there in the bushes at just the right time. Abraham was found faithful, Isaac was spared and God revealed one of his other names: Jehovah Jireh, The Lord will provide.
“Pro means “before” and video means “to see”.
So it means to see in advance or before the need is known.
God is preparing an answer before we know that it is a need” .*
We breed dogs and have for years. When my husband was going through cancer and couldn’t work, God used the puppies we sold to provide for us. We didn’t have excess but we paid our bills and had food to eat. We all saw it as God’s gracious hand upon us.
Recently, God saw another need coming up and He provided for it in the form of two new dogs – Molly and Jesse. About two months ago, I found an ad I wasn’t searching for – a woman some 8 hours away was going through terrible life circumstances and could no longer provide for her two dogs and she wanted to rehome them. Not needing more dogs, I didn’t think, but seeing the quality of the dogs and the breeding opportunities they could provide, I took them in. Molly was already pregnant. I paid a rehoming fee, not much in comparison to what they were worth.
Several weeks later, my husband lost his job. We didn’t see that coming, but God did. Jehovah Jireh knew the need was coming and soon and He provided two beautiful dogs with possibly 10+ puppies already being formed. WOW! Who but God could see this coming? We certainly didn’t. Our place is too small for this many dogs, we will need to move, but what a beautiful reminder that the God that provided a lamb for Abraham, provided an income for us when one was taken away. We may not have excess, but I believe our needs will be met by our Jehovah Jireh.
Have you experienced Jehovah Jireh recently? I would love to hear your story.
