God’s Memory

untitled (8)

…He add, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”  Hebrews 10:17

God’s memory seems to be selective as, no doubt, is ours.  He has chosen to name the stars and remember their names, He has chosen to count the numbers of hairs on my head and remember that.  He has remembered His covenant with His people and remembered my name. And your name.

But He has chosen to remember my sins and your sins no more.  Wow!  Who does that?  I mean, don’t we all have people in our lives who are all to willing to remind us of our sins, aren’t we all too eager to beat ourselves up over our sins?  And yet God, who has every right to remind us and beat us up over our sins, has purposed and promised not to.

I can hardly accept that.  Mentally, I can understand this, sort of, but it is really hard at times, to see myself the way He does, free of sin.  I am reasonably certain that one reason we don’t see the provisions of God take place in our lives – provisions of healing, protection, joy, peace, finances, is that we don’t approach Him with confidence.  We haven’t forgotten our sins and we allow them to become a wall not only between ourselves and God but also between ourselves and those we love.  But He has forgotten them.  He isn’t holding them against us, He isn’t waiting to remind us one more time of you know, that time you did, you know what you did.  No, He isn’t doing that at all.  He is waiting, wooing and loving us into His arms constantly.  He is the safest of the safe places to be.  All I have to do is just believe that and accept that.

It is hard, Father, to forget my sins, to not want to keep beating myself up over them.  Thank You that You have chosen to forget them, to let them leave our relationship for good, once and for all.  Remind me when I want to remember them, that You have chosen to forget and help me to draw near with expectant confidence that You are welcoming me into Your arms of love, my safe place, my healing place.  I love You, Amen.
