Not for a Moment

Not For A Moment by Meredith Andrews is such a beautiful song and beautiful reminder of the faithfulness of God.   Here are the lyrics:

Walking on the water
Even when I could not see
In the middle of it all
When I thought You were a thousand miles away
Not for a moment did You forsake me
Not for a moment did You forsake

 After all You are constant
After all You are only good
After all You are sovereign
Not for a moment will You forsake me

You were singing in the dark
Whispering Your promise
Even when I could not hear
I was held in Your arms
Carried for a thousand miles to show
Not for a moment did You forsake me

And every step every breath You are there
Every tear every cry every prayer
In my heart at my worst
When my world falls down
Not for a moment will You forsake me
Even in the dark
Even when it’s hard
You will never leave me
After all

Whatever the trial, whatever the circumstances, whatever the mountain that seems too big, God will never leave you or me or our loved ones.  He will never forsake us.  We can trust in His character; we can take Him at His word.

Jesus came to be the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of God’s nature.   Jesus, the exact representative of God.  Want to know what the God who will never forsake you looks like?  Look at Jesus who went about doing good and healing all who were sick and oppressed of the devil.  He came to set the world right.  Your world, my world.  Whatever may rock your world did not take Him by surprise.  Sometimes it can seem like He is nowhere to be seen or heard in the midst of a trial, and maybe it’s only in retrospect that we see His hand in it at all, but take comfort in the knowledge that He will never leave you and never forsake you.  You can’t be bad enough to lose His love or good enough to earn it.  All you can do is take it by faith. When difficulties come, this verse from Deuteronomy 31 is a great encouragement:

Moses is preparing the people to enter the promised land and he tells them, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them (their enemies), for the Lord you God is the one who goes with you.  He will not fail you or forsake you”.  Whatever the enemy – pain, disease, illness – He is the one who goes with us.  He will not forsake us – he will never leave us – after all.

When I am feeling all alone, when I can’t sense Your presence, help me be strong, help me be courageous, help me remember that You have said You will not forsake me.  Let Your word rise up big in me in those moments and prevail over my doubts.  I want to enter the promised land where healing is abundant.  Please lead me and go with me.  Thank you for being constant, only good and sovereign.  I rest in Your promises and trust in Your character, in Jesus’ name. Amen
