And a certain woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabric, a worshipper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. Acts 16: 14
God uses unlikely messengers. Some people in the New Testament had a difficult time receiving a message from Paul; they remembered him as Saul who persecuted the followers of Christ. Some people even dismissed Jesus because, after all, He was a carpenter’s son from the neighborhood. In the Old Testament, God used a donkey to get a man’s attention.
I have seen writings of people bashing some very famous faith healers because they did this or didn’t do that or said this or didn’t say this or they got sick and died instead of receiving the healing they were believing for. People love to criticize – find fault. People tend to dismiss a message if they can’t accept the messenger. But what if we listened to their message and allowed God to open our heart? Could their words bring healing then? Could we look beyond the humanity of the messenger and actually hear what is being said?
Some of the more profound messages I have been able to receive, came from a child. Had I dismissed that message because it was delivered by a child instead of a fully ordained minister, I would have missed some valuable truths.
If, like Lydia, I am listening and ask the Lord to open my heart to respond to the words being spoken, God can impart a powerful truth into my life; a truth that sets me free. He did that for Lydia. The very next verse in the Bible says that she and her household were baptized. Heaven touched earth in the heart of Lydia and it spread to her entire household. All she did was worship God and listen. God did the rest. What kind of miracle do you and your household need today? Can you, like Lydia, listen and allow God to open you heart to the message even if the messenger is unlikely?
Father, I ask that You would open my heart to respond to words spoken today by the Pastor or any other messenger You send my way. Help me to discern Your voice, Your truth so that I am not led astray by a false messenger. And help me, like you did Lydia, to receive Your word so that it can have its way into my life bringing the truth that sets me free and help me to share that truth with the members of my household. Amen.
Are you in need of healing? Can I pray for you, with you? Please let me know.
If you have a testimony of healing, I would love to share it with others.
